Dimensions: 10 cm high. Condition and Provenance: Complete and intact, without cracks or damage. The doucai glaze is well-preserved, exhibiting a natural, aged patina. The foot rim is unglazed and has an ancient, earthy patina. It has not undergone modern restoration or chemical cleaning. From the R.K. private collection in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Acquired in 2008, it has been passed down through generations and has always been kept in a temperature- and humidity-controlled warehouse, never appearing in public auctions or museum exhibitions. Description: This is a doucai scholar's water pot from the Jingdezhen imperial kiln during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty. The mouth of the pot is constricted and decorated with red and blue double-line bowstring patterns. The body and foot rim are flattened and round, with an overall soft and full shape. The entire body of the pot is decorated with doucai enamels: the outline is drawn with underglaze blue, and the interior is filled with various glazes including bright yellow, iron red, and vibrant green. Peonies and chrysanthemums bloom in profusion among the lush branches, adorning the scholar's rocks, while butterflies flutter about, creating a vibrant garden scene. The base is decorated with layered underglaze blue sea-stone patterns. The porcelain body is firm and delicate, the glaze soft and lustrous; the glaze colors are neatly applied and the tones are harmonious, typical of Chenghua porcelain. The base bears a double underglaze blue mark reading "Made in the Chenghua Reign of the Great Ming Dynasty," enclosed by a double circle in regular script. A water jug was an essential item in a scholar's study. Extant Chenghua doucai porcelain is extremely rare. This water jug, with its balanced composition and exquisite colors, is a model of Ming dynasty court literati porcelain and possesses extremely high collectible value.
