拍品描述
Dimensions: Height 14.5 cm; Mark and Period: Xuande. Condition and Provenance: Well preserved, with a soft glaze and a rich, deep cobalt blue. The foot rim shows natural signs of aging, without cracks or repairs. Formerly in the private collection of Robert Hopkins, New York City, New York, USA. Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1950s and subsequently passed down through the family. There are no previous records of public auctions, publications, or exhibitions. Description: This exquisite little jar is a fine example of Xuande period blue and white porcelain. It has an everted mouth, short neck, broad shoulders, a rounded body, a narrow base, and a foot rim. The base has a double blue circle containing the six-character mark "Made in the Xuande Reign of the Great Ming Dynasty." Below the mouth is a banana leaf pattern, and the neck and lower body are decorated with a meander pattern. The main body of the jar is painted with a phoenix dancing among peonies. The phoenix is lifelike, with intricately layered feathers, winding branches, and full, abundant leaves. Painted with cobalt blue pigment unique to the Xuande period, the blue is bright and dotted with natural rust spots. The brushstrokes are vigorous and fluid, and the composition is balanced. The phoenix symbolizes good fortune and peace. Such small and exquisite imperial jars are extremely rare to this day, making them highly valuable for appreciation and collection.
