The Hetian white jade maintains translucent, creamy luster, front relief carvings of sacred figures remain crisp with zero wear, reverse sides of jade slabs are smooth and scratch-free. The black sandalwood stands feature openwork chi dragon and scrolling grass carvings, all mortise and tenon joints are tight and stable, no wood splits, repainting or repairs, retaining original natural collected patina. This matching set was first preserved by an overseas Chinese collector in Singapore, later consigned through an antique gallery in Vancouver, and currently housed in a private Qing jade collection in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. New Jersey, Texas and Singapore are the primary global trading hubs for Ming and Qing jade carvings.Description: This matched pair of Hetian white jade Buddhist table screens is an elite Qing scholar’s desk ornament set, one carved Buddha paired with one Guanyin, fitted with matching carved black sandalwood display stands, a premier decorative treasure of the Qing literati study. The top rail of each stand features openwork carving of a backward-facing chi dragon head; straight, neat rectangular borders frame the jade inserts, while the base showcases pierced scrolling floral motifs, paired bird-head carvings on side supports. The wood carving lines are fluid and elegant, with clear, glossy natural wood grain visible. Two rectangular Hetian white jade plaques are embedded inside, crafted from top-tier mutton-fat white jade with compact, creamy texture and soft subdued glow, free of impurities or cloudy inclusions. The larger plaque bears relief carving of Shakyamuni Buddha, seated in full lotus position atop lotus pedestal, double layered circular mandorla behind his head, serene dignified facial features and naturally layered robe folds. The smaller plaque depicts hands-clasped Guanyin Bodhisattva, also seated on lotus throne, adorned with elaborate crown and pearl necklaces, rendered with gentle, merciful facial features. The reverse of both jade slabs are plain, smooth and unadorned. Surviving complete matching Buddha and Guanyin jade screen pairs are extremely rare on the market. The wooden stands and jade plaques are original matching components, combining two premium Qing craft techniques: hardwood openwork wood carving and fine white jade relief carving. The set serves dual purposes for Buddhist worship and scholarly desk appreciation, fully embodying the Qing literati aesthetic for devotional decorative art, ranking as a high-tier collectible set of Hetian jade furnishings.
