拍品描述

Measurements: Rim diameter 9.5cm (3.74 inches), overall height 12cm (4.72 inches), 7–10th century Tang low-fired polychrome potteryCondition & Provenance: The vessel and matching lid are original factory set, fully intact without major cracks or large chips, only tiny faint glaze wear spots from long-term collection. The outer polychrome glaze flows naturally and remains largely preserved, all spiral horizontal ribs stay sharp and defined, three animal legs are undamaged with no grinding or restoration on unglazed paw tips. The unglazed interior bears original wheel-throwing spiral marks and natural burial patina, concentric turning lines on the base are fully original without recutting or reglazing. After excavation, this piece first circulated through antique galleries in Hong Kong, later consigned via a Toronto antique dealer, and now resides in a private ancient ceramic collection in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Hong Kong serves as the primary global trading hub for pre-Song ancient porcelain and pottery.Description: This is a classic Tang Sancai cosmetic storage vessel, used by noble Tang court ladies to hold face powder and aromatic ointments. It features a straight cylindrical body wrapped in evenly spaced raised spiral ribs that create rhythmic linear texture. Three molded animal-head tripod feet support the base; beast heads are covered in green glaze while paw tips reveal raw off-white pottery clay with a rustic, solid silhouette. It comes with its original matching domed lid from the same kiln, decorated with large splashes of green glaze and topped by a peach-shaped finial. The lead glaze freely blends yellow, green and creamy white hues, covered in fine natural age crackles, a defining artistic trait of Tang low-temperature polychrome ceramics. The interior is fully unglazed, exposing pale grey clay with distinct wheel-throwing striations and natural burial soil discoloration. The flat base shows complete concentric turning marks left by ancient pottery tools. Complete lidded tripod Sancai cosmetic boxes are quite scarce on the market. This specimen retains full original glaze, matched lid and authentic proportions, perfectly capturing the bold, unrestrained artistic taste of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. It carries tremendous archaeological, decorative and collecting value as a well-preserved benchmark Tang Sancai artifact.
