Natural aged patina covers the glaze, no modern restoration or repairs.provenance: Private collection of a veteran early‑Chinese‑ceramics connoisseur in Hong Kong. Acquired in 1987 from a well‑established antique shop in Central Hong Kong, passed down within the collector’s family up to present. This magnificent Jian ware tea bowl with golden partridge‑feather oil‑spot glaze represents the high‑end tea‑drinking culture of the Song Dynasty. It follows the classic Jian‑yao shape with slightly contracted rim, gracefully curved belly tapering toward the foot. It has the signature dark iron‑rich body typical of Jian kiln production, with rough, dense clay. The trimming work on the foot is crisp, and natural earth patina can be observed on the exposed base.Thick black glaze covers the entire vessel. Stunning golden‑brown oil‑spot crystals burst across both interior and exterior surfaces. These speckles vary in size and density, replicating the feather pattern of a partridge bird, a highly‑sought‑after kiln‑transformation effect for Song‑period tea wares. The glaze carries a glossy vitreous finish softened by centuries‑old natural patina, no modern polishing or alteration.During the Song era, the elite competed in tea‑whisking contests. The dark glaze of Jian bowls made it ideal for contrasting against bright white tea foam, earning tremendous favor among scholars and even imperial circles. Complete golden oil‑spot partridge‑feather Jian bowls are quite scarce; most surviving examples are fragments. This intact specimen stands as a museum‑caliber treasure with tremendous collecting importance.
