It features the characteristic Jian‑yao “shou‑kou” shape, with slightly flared rim, gently tapering body and short low foot ring. Thick black glaze coats the interior, generating countless fine radiating hare’s‑fur streaks spreading outward. Silvery‑blue and golden‑yellow hair‑like filaments interweave across the dark glaze ground. A warm orange‑brown kiln‑changed band decorates the rim. Glaze flows naturally down toward the bowl base with rich multi‑tonal color variation. The exterior glaze also displays bold flowing hare’s‑fur effects shifting from russet‑orange down to deep black. The exposed foot shows the famous dark iron‑rich Jian kiln body, coarse and substantial. Foot trimming is straightforward and authentic, with ancient soil residues on the base. Tea‑competition culture was extremely popular in Song China. Dark‑glazed Jian bowls were highly valued, as their black surface made the frothy white tea foam easy to observe, loved by both imperial court and common society. This well‑preserved example boasts vivid fur streaks, beautiful kiln‑transformed colors and correct period form. Body and glaze faithfully represent authentic Song‑period Jian ware. It stands as a wonderful collectible ancient tea vessel, carrying great cultural‑historical significance alongside powerful visual appeal.
