Dimensions:Mouth Diameter 11.2cm (4.41 in), Height 4.7cm (1.85 in), 10th‑13th Century A.D.Condition & Provenance:The bowl is complete without penetrating cracks. Minor ancient nicks along rim are age‑related wear accumulated over centuries. Both interior and exterior are covered with mustard‑yellow glaze filled with fine natural crackles coated by smooth antique patina. The base reveals off‑white sandy clay with distinct wheel‑cut marks and natural burial soil patina. Provenance: Private collection, Hong Kong, China. Acquired from an antique dealer in Central, Hong Kong back in 1998, preserved within one private family and rarely exhibited publicly.Description:This deep‑bodied tea bowl with carved decoration was fired at Jizhou kilns in southern China, a fine representative tea vessel from Song folk kilns. It features slightly flared rim with gently curved tapering walls down to a short foot ring. The well‑proportioned sturdy shape fits comfortably in hand, perfectly suited for Song‑style whisked tea preparation. Thick mustard‑yellow glaze covers the outer wall, shifting from golden yellow to caramel brown with rich tonal gradations. Fine crazed crackles spread all over the glazed surface, delivering strong antique visual character. The inner surface is fully decorated with deeply carved scrolling lotus blossoms and leaves. Blooms, buds and foliage interlock into a dense full composition. Carving lines are crisp and fluid, generating striking three‑dimensional effect as glaze pools within recessed grooves. The foot ring remains unglazed, exposing typical off‑white sandy Jizhou‑kiln clay with hand‑trimming spiral marks at base center. Jizhou represents the most prominent folk kiln complex in Jiangnan during Song times. Mustard‑yellow glazed wares with sharp carved ornamentation were technically challenging to produce, intact examples with clear decoration are fairly uncommon today. This bowl carries mellow antique glaze and vivid densely‑packed interior carving. It superbly showcases the accomplished craftsmanship of Song folk artisans. Serving as valuable physical evidence for studying ancient Jiangnan tea culture and southern ceramic technology, it possesses solid artistic and collectible merit.
