Only subtle age‑related wear exists along rim from long‑term historical usage. Distinct fluid hare‑fur streaks run through the black glaze on both interior and exterior. Exposed iron‑rich base shows coarse aged clay coated with ancient burial patina. Provenance: Private collection, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Acquired through a Japanese antique dealer in 1994, kept within family collection for decades and rarely exhibited publicly.Description:This classic hare‑fur tea bowl was fired at Jian kilns in Fujian province, the most celebrated tea vessel for Song‑era whisked tea ceremonies. It follows the standard Jian‑yao tapering form with slightly flared rim and subtle interior indentation line below mouth. Walls curve gently down to a short robust foot ring, ergonomically shaped for Song‑dynasty tea‑tasting practice. Thick lustrous black glaze covers inner and outer surfaces. Fine silvery‑blue hare‑fur streaks radiate outward from bowl center toward rim following natural glaze flow. Bright silvery‑blue streaks deliver striking visual contrast against deep black background. Outer glaze stops short above base, revealing the characteristic dark iron‑rich body of Jian ware. The clay is coarse, granular and substantial, the foot ring bears archaic hand‑chipping trimming marks. Jian kilns specialized in black‑glazed tea wares during Song. Hare‑fur bowls were highly cherished by imperial court and literati, perfect for judging the white froth of whisked tea against dark ceramic surface. This Jian‑yao bowl possesses canonical shape, freely flowing hare‑fur streaks and authentic antique glaze luster, with unmistakable iron‑body features. It preserves the original character of Song Jian ware, serving as valuable physical reference for researching ancient tea custom and Jian kiln firing technology, holding remarkable artistic and collectible merit.
