拍品描述

Dimensions:Mouth Diameter 8.5cm (3.35 in), Height 5.6cm (2.20 in), 13th‑14th Century A.D.Condition & Provenance:Both cups are fully intact without cracks, chips or modern restoration. Soft powder‑green glaze is covered with natural crackle networks. Rims display characteristic brown‑tinged glaze edge. Hexagonal foot rings are neatly trimmed with iron‑brown tone and smooth antique patina. Shape, glaze hue and crackle pattern are well‑matched across the pair. Provenance: Private collection, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Acquired via private sale at Sotheby’s London Asian Art department in 2004. Kept within one private family for more than twenty years, exhibited only in North‑American themed private exhibitions on Yuan celadons, never consigned to public auction.Description:This matched pair of hexagonal tea cups was crafted at Longquan kilns in Yuan dynasty, elegant drinking vessels for literati gatherings. Each cup has hexagonal outline with slightly flared rim, crisp angular walls tapering gently toward hexagonal foot ring. The silhouette is stately and well‑proportioned. Thick velvety powder‑green celadon glaze coats interior and exterior surfaces, suffused with natural interconnected ice‑crackle fissures running continuously from rim down to base. Thinned glaze along rim reveals underlying clay, creating warm brown‑tinged lip typical of Yuan Longquan production. The hexagonal unglazed foot is precisely trimmed, foot rim shows iron‑brown color together with accumulated ancient soil patina. Polygonal forms were technically challenging to produce compared to circular wares, resulting in low survival rate. Surviving original matching pairs are quite uncommon. This pair exhibits elegant archaistic design, sharp angular lines, substantial glaze body and spontaneous antique crackle. All manufacturing markers correspond to Yuan‑dynasty Longquan standards with untouched original condition. Functional for tea ceremony display as well as cabinet appreciation, they provide valuable material reference for researching polygonal‑form firing techniques and tea‑drinking customs in Yuan China, representing high collectible rank.
