Provenance: Former collection of a senior Song porcelain specialist in Hong Kong, China. Acquired at London Asian Art & Antiques Fair in 2008, passed down within one family. The set was only shown in private special exhibitions for Southern Song Guan ware and has never been offered for public auction.Description:This complete set of three scholar’s items was fired in the imperial Southern Song Guan kiln, consisting of a small pear‑shaped vase, a conical teacup and a floral‑rim bowl. They served as matched imperial‑court utensils for flower arrangement and tea drinking in Song scholarly studies. The pear‑shaped vase features small opening, slender neck and soft rounded lower belly, perfectly sized for desk‑top flower display. The conical teacup has widely flared sloping sides, representing the classic Song‑dynasty tea‑bowl form. The floral‑rim bowl boasts undulating petal‑shaped lip with curved wall and short foot, showing delicate craftsmanship. Every piece is fully coated inside and out with thick powder‑celadon glaze, silky and jade‑like with subdued elegant luster. Natural gold‑thread crackles spread across all surfaces, with varied fissure sizes and golden tonal shifts formed organically by different shrinkage ratios between body and glaze during cooling, the signature aesthetic trait of Southern Song Guan porcelain. Thin glaze at each rim exposes subtle brown clay to produce the famous purple‑rim effect, while unglazed foot rings reveal dark ferruginous iron foot, the definitive marker for authentic Guan ware. As porcelain exclusively manufactured for the Southern Song imperial household, complete surviving matched sets of Guan‑kiln scholar‑studio wares are extraordinarily rare. This group shares consistent glaze tone and harmonious crackle patterns, all body‑and‑glaze markers match genuine Southern Song Guan kiln manufacturing standards, with outstanding preservation condition. Matched Song Guan kiln group survivals rank as museum‑level treasures, holding tremendous aesthetic appeal and academic‑historical importance for serious global Asian art collectors.
