Dimensions:Diagonal mouth diameter 16.5cm (6.50 in), 12th-13th Century A.D.Condition & Provenance:The washer is entirely intact without cracks, chips, glaze flaking or post-production restoration. The all-over crackle veins are original from kiln firing, natural earth patina seeps into crack gaps along the rim. The iron-brown protective slip on the foot rim is fully preserved, with no artificial polishing or cleaning. Provenance: Former private collection of a distinguished ancient porcelain collector based in Hong Kong. Acquired at Toronto Asian Antique Fair in 2009, passed down within a single private family for over forty years. It was only displayed in private themed exhibitions dedicated to Southern Song Longquan celadon, and has never been consigned to any public auction.Description:This hexagonal folded-rim brush washer is a classic literati desk ware produced at Longquan kilns in Southern Song, perfectly showcasing the simple, restrained oriental aesthetic favored by Song scholars. It features precise six-sided folded rim with neat straight edges, slightly outward flaring rim, gently shallow inward curved body and matching hexagonal ring foot, balancing rigid and soft lines for a solemn elegant silhouette. Thick, even, smooth pink celadon glaze fully covers interior and exterior surfaces, the glaze carries a jade-like dense texture. The glaze surface is covered with naturally interlaced mesh ice crackles, which have developed light yellowish-brown aged veins over centuries, creating rich layered antique texture. Thin glaze on the rim faintly reveals the clay body, the foot rim is coated with standard iron-brown protective slip, and the base interior is fully glazed with consistent crackle patterns running from rim to base. Its clay and glaze features match excavated Southern Song kiln shards unearthed at Dayao Longquan kiln site in Zhejiang Province. Hexagonal irregular Longquan washers from Southern Song required far more complex firing techniques than circular wares, intact fine preserved specimens are extremely rare on the market. This washer boasts symmetrical precise hexagonal shape, rich soft pink celadon glaze, well-balanced crackle texture, fully retained original burial patina and untouched ancient skin, surviving in flawless condition. It stands as a benchmark physical specimen of Southern Song Longquan porcelain craftsmanship, holding excellent ornamental value for traditional study rooms, vital academic research significance and high-end collectible investment value, widely pursued by veteran Song porcelain collectors from Hong Kong, Pennsylvania USA and all Southeast Asian regions.
