Natural red stone veins spread naturally all over the stone. The relief carving on the top retains sharp full lines, the seal script characters on four sides show no wear or blurred strokes, and all edges keep original aged patina from hand polishing. Provenance: Former private collection of a distinguished oriental art collector based in New York. Acquired at Vancouver Asian Antique Fair in 2012, passed down within one overseas family for over thirty-five years. It was only displayed in private themed exhibitions focusing on antique Chinese desk collectibles, and has never been consigned to any public auction.Description:This large multi-face stone seal follows imperial craft standards of Qing Dynasty, ranking as a top-tier heavy antique desk ware, used by royal families and literati to authenticate paintings, calligraphy and ancient books. It perfectly combines two supreme traditional crafts of Qing China: stone relief carving and seal cutting. The seal is carved from premium red Shoushan stone, presenting even rich jujube red tone all over. The stone holds smooth dense texture with natural greasy luster, scattered natural stone veins bring steady weighty visual sense. It adopts thick square block shape. The top surface features deep relief carving of divine beast bergamot and five bats. The bergamot stretches plumply, five bats circle around with winding cloud patterns, symbolizing longevity and five blessings. Carving layers are distinct with smooth fluent cutting strokes, delivering outstanding three-dimensional visual effect. Four vertical sides of the seal are fully covered with intricate nine-fold seal script intaglio characters.
