Provenance: Former private collection of a veteran early Song porcelain collector based in Hong Kong. The pair was only exhibited in private themed shows dedicated to northern Chinese celadon wares, and has never been consigned to any public auction.Description:This matched pair of carved celadon conical tea bowls originates from Yaozhou Kiln of Song Dynasty, representing the peak craftsmanship of northern carved celadon wares produced between Northern Song and Jin periods, perfectly demonstrating exceptional ceramic carving techniques of ancient northern kilns. The wares adopt classic conical silhouette with wide flaring rim, sloping walls gently tapering down to a tiny compact ring foot, delivering soft smooth outline with perfectly symmetrical proportions, both bowls share nearly identical dimensions as a matching set. The entire surface is covered with mellow olive celadon glaze with even thick coating, fully covered by delicate natural ice crackle patterns spreading all over interior and exterior, delivering timeless antique texture. The inner wall is fully carved with lively design of playing children interspersed among winding floral scrolls. The child figures hold vivid dynamic poses surrounded by blooming round flowers with clear vein details. Carving strokes are sharp and decisive with distinct depth layers, balanced dense layout and smooth unrestrained lines, the signature carving style of Yaozhou Kiln. The outer surface is plain without ornamentation, only retaining original crackled celadon glaze texture. The unglazed foot reveals pale ochre kiln clay with dense solid body, seamless transition between clay and glaze. Producing carved conical bowls at Yaozhou Kiln during Song Dynasty required extremely high craftsmanship, craftsmen had to precisely control carving depth, glaze uniformity and shape symmetry. Fully preserved matching pairs with intact crisp carved motifs, original glaze and crackle texture are extremely rare in today’s antique market. This set of celadon conical bowls features standard matched shape, vivid complete boy-and-floral carving, warm antique olive glaze, fully preserved thousand-year-old natural crackle and untouched original kiln clay patina without any artificial repair or alteration. It stands as a benchmark collectible of northern Song celadon, holding excellent ornamental value for tea room display, vital archaeological research significance for ancient Chinese ceramics and premium overseas antique investment value, highly sought-after by early porcelain collectors from Hong Kong, Pennsylvania USA and Toronto.
