The full Yingqing glaze remains intact, only faint natural yellow patina appears on raised lotus ridges, rim, spout and handle edges from centuries of gentle use, the glaze surface is soft and translucent. Unglazed base foot bears original mottled reddish-brown burial patina with dry solid clay, no acid cleaning or artificial polishing. Provenance: Former private collection of a Song antique porcelain specialist based in Hong Kong. Acquired at Toronto Asian Antique Art Fair in 2012, privately preserved within one family for over thirty years. It was only exhibited in private thematic shows for Hutian kiln Yingqing wares and has never been consigned to public auction sales.Description:This gourd-shaped wine ewer with carved lotus relief is a classic Yingqing celadon piece from Hutian Kiln of Song Dynasty, crafted as a small wine vessel for literati banquets and tea rituals in ancient China. It features a two-section gourd silhouette: the upper narrow neck is molded with vertical chrysanthemum ribbing, capped with a small circular lid fitted with a cord loop, the lid is also decorated with subtle vertical ridges. A narrow waist connects the upper neck to the plump lower body fully covered in three-dimensional raised upward lotus petals, distinct layered petal ridges carry pale yellow aged patina. A slender straight spout extends from one side, paired with a looped handle topped with a small cord ring to fasten the lid and avoid loss. The base flares out as a ring foot, the unglazed bottom surface is covered with natural mottled reddish-brown soil encrustation, fully retaining original raw clay characteristics of Song Hutian kiln firing. The entire piece is coated with uniform pale bluish-white Yingqing glaze, presenting soft lake-water celadon tone with thin translucent glaze layer, perfectly embodying the iconic traits of Song Yingqing porcelain: white as jade, bright as mirror, thin as paper, resonant as chime. The gourd form symbolizes fortune and blessings, while lotus patterns represent purity and auspiciousness, making this piece a functional Song porcelain with both practical use and symbolic ornament value. Complete Song Yingqing ewers with original matching lid and intact carved lotus relief are extremely scarce on the market. This well-proportioned vessel features crisp sculpted motifs, standard authentic celadon glaze and untouched original base clay, serving as an invaluable physical specimen for researching Hutian kiln craftsmanship and Song Dynasty tea & wine culture. It is highly sought-after by Song celadon collectors from Hong Kong, New York State USA and Vancouver, holding great value for study, desk display and antique investment.
