拍品描述

Dimensions:Mouth diameter 9.5cm (3.74 in), height 4.2cm (1.65 in), 10th-13th Century A.D.Condition & Provenance:The teacup is fully intact without cracks, chips or restoration. The exterior black glaze carries natural fine crackle, evenly distributed blue-brown kiln speckles, and naturally aged rim clay. Interior gilded decoration and calligraphy remain intact with only natural minor wear from centuries of use, no later re-gilding or repainting. The rough clay base shows genuine ancient soil patina. Provenance: Former private collection of a Hong Kong ancient porcelain collector. Acquired at Toronto Asian Antique Fair in 2017, preserved by one family for over 20 years. It was only exhibited in private themed shows of Song dynasty tea wares and has never appeared in public auctions.Description:This fine gilded tea bowl is a representative work of Song Jizhou kiln, closely tied to the popular Song tea competition culture. It adopts classic Song tea bowl shape with slightly contracted rim, deep curved belly and small unglazed foot, made of typical coarse brown clay exclusive to Jizhou ware. The outside is fully covered with jet black glaze dotted with iridescent blue-green kiln oil-drop streaks, covered with natural aged crackle texture. The interior is decorated with delicate hand-painted gold pigment: a radiating chrysanthemum sits at the center, surrounded by four panels inscribed with auspicious gilded calligraphy, framed by scrolling grass geometric border along the rim. The striking contrast between gold paint and black glaze creates outstanding layered visual appeal. Gilded Jizhou porcelain required extremely complex firing techniques, as gold pigment was hard to fuse with glaze. Surviving intact examples with legible calligraphy are incredibly rare. Song literati held tea-tasting contests widely, and this gilded poetic bowl combines daily function and ornamental value, embodying Song tea culture and literati calligraphy aesthetics. It holds tremendous academic and collecting value, highly sought after by ancient ceramic collectors from Hong Kong, New York and Florida, standing as a scarce top-tier Jizhou tea vessel.
