It was only displayed at private Six Dynasties bronze exhibitions and has never been listed for public auctions, designated collection market California.Description:This utilitarian bronze alms bowl dates back to the Six Dynasties period, a heavy high-ancient bronze daily vessel cast as a single piece using traditional sectional mold casting techniques. It features a deep, full alms bowl silhouette with wide flared mouth, curved deep walls and a solid circular flat base, showcasing simple, thick proportions and soft rounded contours that define iconic Six Dynasties bronze shapes. The entire surface is completely plain without decorative carvings, abandoning intricate ornamentation to highlight the solemn, minimalist beauty of raw bronze, perfectly matching the subtle, understated aesthetic popular during the Wei and Jin dynasties. Both interior and exterior retain multi-layer natural malachite green patina, blending dark brown bronze base with scattered green rust spots. The rust penetrates deep into the bronze matrix with smooth natural gradation, forming authentic ancient crust from centuries of soil and water erosion, with outstanding preservation quality. Plain bronze wares from the Six Dynasties are far rarer than decorated examples, and intact large alms bowls are extremely scarce. It serves as a valuable archaeological specimen for researching early medieval bronze craftsmanship, while also functioning as a premium desk display piece, highly sought after by veteran high-ancient bronze collectors based in California, New York and Hong Kong.
