Provenance: Private Collection, California, USA.Description: This exceptional group consists of three Tang Dynasty bronze mirrors, each representing a different decorative tradition found in early Chinese bronze mirror art. Together they showcase three major themes: auspicious mythical creatures, symbolic geometric patterns, and elegant floral and animal compositions. Each mirror was cast using traditional bronze casting techniques, with the central knob integrated into the mirror body. The surfaces combine relief carving and fine incised details, demonstrating the sophisticated craftsmanship of Tang period bronze artisans. The first mirror features a Linghua-shaped rim with a central rounded knob. The reverse is arranged in a balanced symmetrical composition, with two powerful auspicious beasts facing each other on both sides. Between them rises a three-tiered mountain landscape surrounded by clouds, with grain plants growing from the mountain slopes and flying birds placed above. The finely modeled muscles of the beasts, layered mountains, and detailed feathers reveal the refined artistic quality of Tang decorative bronze work. The second mirror presents a perfectly circular form with a narrow plain rim and a raised central knob. The reverse is covered with delicate feather-like ground patterns and four symmetrical groups of swastika motifs. Small circular star patterns decorate the intersections, creating a highly organized geometric design symbolizing prosperity, continuity, and eternal blessings. The third mirror adopts an eight-lobed Linghua form. Its reverse features a full decorative scene filled with flowering branches, plum blossoms, birds, deer, auspicious animals, and butterflies surrounding the central knob. The composition is rich yet balanced, reflecting the elegant naturalism and decorative sophistication of Tang Dynasty mirror design. All three mirrors display naturally formed bronze patina, including green mineral deposits, reddish oxidation, and blue-gray surface tones developed over centuries. With their diverse themes, refined casting techniques, and strong historical presence, this group represents an outstanding example of Tang Dynasty bronze mirror craftsmanship and remains highly desirable among international collectors.
