拍品描述

Dimensions:Overall height 32cm(12.60in),13th–14th Century CECondition & Provenance:The vase and its matching original lid form a complete intact set without deep cracks or major chips and restorations. The whole vessel is covered with thick creamy pale celadon glaze dotted with faint natural aged discoloration formed by long-term preservation. The raised relief carving of dragon and tiger wrapping around the neck retains all original facial and limb details without missing sections. The chi dragon finial and scrolling cloud ornaments on the lid stay full and undamaged with no chipping.Orange-red kiln rust naturally lines the unglazed rim and base foot ring;the clay base is dry and authentic old, only minor glaze flaking exists on the outer foot edge which does not hurt the overall value. This Longquan vase was collected by a private Song-Yuan celadon collector based in Houston,Texas,USA.The collector obtained this piece from a reputable Hong Kong antique gallery back in the 1990s,and it has been stored in constant temperature dark storage ever since as a monumental display artwork of Yuan Longquan dragon-tiger theme.Description:This covered vase is a classic burial display vessel crafted at Longquan Kiln during China’s Yuan Dynasty. It boasts an elegant tall silhouette with a flared dish mouth, constricted neck, plump rounded belly and short recessed foot, matching a domed original lid topped by a three-dimensional chi dragon knob lined with swirling cloud reliefs along the lid rim.The entire piece is fully coated with Longquan’s signature thick pale celadon glaze, delivering an even soft lake jade tone with rich creamy matte luster. The neck exterior is adorned with high-relief coiled dragon and roaring tiger sculptures paired together, symbolizing auspicious fortune and spiritual protection. The relief features vivid detailed carvings of fur, claws and facial features with striking three-dimensional depth. The mouth rim and foot ring are trimmed to expose raw clay with natural orange firing rust,a distinctive native characteristic of Longquan high-temperature firing. The interior is fully glazed in celadon with neatly trimmed clay body.Large dragon-tiger Longquan vases with matching lids were primarily commissioned for noble tombs in the Yuan era and surviving complete examples are extremely rare in today’s global antique market. This tall specimen features flawless glaze, undamaged dragon and tiger sculpture, original matching lid and no heavy restorations. It fully demonstrates the outstanding sculpting and glazing techniques of Yuan Longquan kilns, standing as a monumental museum-grade treasure for Song and Yuan celadon collections.
