Dimensions:One jar height 8.5cm(3.35in),diameter 8.5cm(3.35in);the other jar height 9cm(3.54in),diameter 8.5cm(3.35in),14th Century CECondition & Provenance:The pair is fully intact.Jars, lids and elephant knobs are free of cracks, chips and modern restorations.Pink‑celadon glaze remains in fine condition.Natural rust‑red firing discoloration and age‑related soil patina appear on lid‑jar joint and foot base, original traces from firing and long‑term passage of time. This group originates from a private Yuan‑dynasty porcelain collection in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania,USA.The collector purchased them from a Hong Kong antique gallery in 2004 and kept them in climate‑controlled dim storage.Preserved matching pairs of Longquan elephant‑knob jars are quite uncommon.Description:These are fine small covered jars from Longquan kiln of Yuan dynasty. Each piece has contracted mouth, full shoulder, plump belly tapering toward flat base. Each comes with original lid crowned by a naive sculpted elephant knob.Elephant in Chinese art symbolizes peace and good fortune. The whole body is coated with thick soft pink‑celadon glaze with even gentle luster, the celebrated classic tone of Longquan celadon.Reddish‑brown firing rust shows on mouth rim and foot ring, characteristic of authentic Longquan large‑ware‑site clay. These miniature jars functioned as scholar‑studio containers for incense paste or seal paste, combining auspicious sculptural detail with restrained celadon beauty.Surviving matched pairs are rare examples demonstrating excellent Yuan‑period Longquan glazing and sculpting craftsmanship, representing museum‑grade collectible decorative celadon wares.
