拍品描述

Dimensions:Mouth Diameter 17.5cm(6.89in),Overall Height 12.5cm(4.92in),7‑10th Century CECondition & Provenance:The censer body is intact without penetrating cracks.Three molded beast‑form feet are fully preserved, free of later restoration or repainting.Exterior green, amber and off‑white sancai lead glazes flow and blend organically across the surface, covered with fine period‑original crackle glaze with natural color transition. The interior is fully coated with amber‑brown glaze;the unglazed base reveals coarse white pottery body with authentic aged burial patina.Only minor glaze chipping and earth erosion can be seen on rim and foot tips from ancient underground burial,no large‑scale losses. This large sancai tripod censer comes from a private ancient‑ceramic collector’s collection based in Hong Kong. The collector acquired this artifact from an antique gallery in London back in 2012.Large‑size intact Tang sancai tripod censers with complete original feet are fairly uncommon on global antique markets.Description:This imposing tripod censer is a representative ritual incense burner of Tang‑dynasty sancai pottery. It features straight cylindrical body, wide flat mouth rim and three stout molded beast‑head feet, conveying solemn and stately silhouette. It served as incense‑burning furnishing for Tang aristocratic households.Low‑fired lead‑rich sancai glazes of green, amber‑yellow and creamy white melt and flow freely across outer walls, creating vivid mottled splashed visual effect without rigid painted patterns, epitomizing the bold, energetic artistic spirit of Tang dynasty. The entire inner cavity is covered with amber‑brown glaze with dense natural crackle. The base remains unglazed, exposing typical coarse porous white pottery body of Tang sancai with genuine burial‑induced discoloration.Sancai was a famous low‑temperature lead‑glazed ceramic in Tang period, widely used for tomb furnishings and domestic display.Large‑scale examples retaining all three original feet are quite rare to survive today. With generous dimensions, lively flowing glaze colors and well‑preserved beast feet, this tripod censer serves as valuable physical reference for studying Tang sancai craft. It is well‑suited for ancient‑ceramic themed exhibition and serious Tang‑pottery collector’s cabinet.
