Dimensions:Mouth Diameter 10cm(3.94in),Overall Height 7.7cm(3.03in),13‑14th Century CECondition & Provenance:The lid and base are original matching set,free of penetrating cracks,major chips,restoration or later repainting.The whole piece is covered with naturally aged crackled celadon glaze;the stem‑shaped knob and raised stud decorations on lid and body are well‑preserved.The unglazed fitting rim and foot ring bear ancient earth patina and minor surface wear without heavy glaze loss.This Longquan box comes from a private collector’s collection in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania.The collector acquired this artifact from an antique gallery in London back in 2014.Complete Yuan Longquan lidded boxes with original organic‑form knob are relatively uncommon on global antique markets.Description:This practical lidded box was made at Longquan kilns during the Yuan dynasty,used to store cosmetics,incense or small personal ornaments for literati chambers and noble ladies.It adopts a flattened melon‑shaped silhouette,the lid fits tightly onto the base.A small stem‑like knob sits on top of the lid,paired with matching raised stud decorations around lid rim and box body,imitating the appearance of real fruit with thoughtful design.Both interior and exterior are coated with thick,lustrous Longquan celadon glaze with fine natural crackle and soft even tone.The fitting joint rim between lid and base is left unglazed,showing pale buff pottery body.The foot ring is also unglazed with solid clay and natural rust‑red firing discoloration along the edge.Longquan kilns mass‑produced various lidded boxes in Yuan period,yet intact matched examples retaining original knob and stud ornaments are not easy to obtain.With full rounded silhouette and soothing celadon glaze,this vessel combines practical usage and antique aesthetic value.It stands as fine representative of Yuan Longquan daily‑use display porcelain,suitable for ancient green‑porcelain themed exhibition and dedicated celadon collections.
