This piece was once part of a private Song porcelain collection based in Central Hong Kong, acquired from an antique gallery in Kuala Lumpur in 2015. Large intact carved conical bowls from Hutian kiln are fairly rare among surviving Song wares, holding solid artistic and collectible value.Description:This conical tea bowl is a iconic Qingbai porcelain work made at Hutian Kiln in Jiangxi during Song Dynasty, crafted for both tea drinking and decorative display for Song literati. It features wide flared rim with walls sloping gently down to a tiny compact foot, delivering an elegant lightweight silhouette achieved through masterful thin-body porcelain craftsmanship. The whole surface is covered in smooth pale sky-blue Yingqing glaze with subtle natural crackle, delivering a soft jade-like luster. The interior is fully decorated with deep-carved winding floral scroll patterns with layered flowing lines, centered with a swirling flower stamen. The carving depth varies naturally to create three-dimensional contrast through glaze thickness differences. The exterior is plain without ornamentation, letting the pure celadon glaze take center stage. The foot ring is unglazed, revealing fine solid white porcelain body stained with natural yellowish kiln rust and burial soil residue. Yingqing porcelain was designed to mimic nephrite jade texture, and this large carved conical bowl balances minimalist shape and intricate interior decoration. Retaining its original untouched aged patina, it stands as a prime standard example of Hutian kiln Song Qingbai ware, ideal for museum display and high-level antique porcelain private collections.
