Dimensions:Mouth Diameter 6cm(2.36in),Overall Height 10.2cm(4.02in),12‑13th century Song Qingbai ceramicCondition & Provenance:The jar is completely intact without cracks or chips. Original Yingqing glaze is fully preserved with soft luster. The incised butterfly‑and‑floral motifs on outer wall remain crisp. The unglazed sandy base bears dry clay with natural burial soil stains and dark kiln slag deposits. There is no repair, secondary glazing or grinding. This piece belonged to a private Song‑porcelain collector based in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania, acquired through an antique gallery in Toronto in 2018. While small Yingqing jars are not uncommon, butterfly‑floral theme is relatively distinctive. Untouched original‑surface specimens carry solid collecting and display value.Description:This small jar was fired at Hutian Kiln of Song China, serving as storage vessel or table‑top flower container in Song daily life. It features flared rolled rim, short neck, full shoulder and tapering body ending in flat sandy base, presenting a compact, well‑proportioned silhouette. The exterior wall is decorated with incised patterns of spreading‑wing butterfly interwoven with scrolling blossoms. Carving strokes are concise and fluid; patterns follow vessel curvature, gaining dimensional contrast from uneven glaze accumulation. Both interior and exterior are covered in soft pale bluish‑white Yingqing celadon glaze with jade‑like sheen. The inner cavity also carries Qingbai glaze, revealing wheel‑throwing spiral traces left during production. The base is unglazed sandy clay, retaining kiln slag and burial dirt without modern cleaning. Yingqing glaze defines major southern ceramic tradition of Song dynasty. This jar merges practical shape with lively incised ornament. Auspicious butterfly‑floral iconography makes it a fine representative example of folk Qingbai ware, perfect for desk‑top display and specialized antique porcelain collection.
