Dimensions:Mouth Diameter 4.5cm(1.77in),Overall Height 18.5cm(7.28in),10-12th century Northern Song Ru imperial ceramicCondition & Provenance:The vase is fully intact without cracks, chips, filling or post-production restoration. The whole surface retains original burial patina, natural all-over crackle glaze remains undamaged, three tiny sesame spur marks on base are distinct and complete. All original glaze covering rim, long neck, globular belly and foot ring survives with no secondary glaze or artificial aging treatment. This vessel was collected by a veteran private collector of Song pre-Ming porcelain based in Hong Kong, purchased from an antique Oriental art gallery in Toronto back in 2019. Fully intact Northern Song Ru wares are extremely scarce worldwide. This long-neck globular vase features well-proportioned elegant form, well-preserved sky celadon glaze and untouched burial patina, standing as a benchmark specimen of China’s Five Great Song Imperial Kilns with remarkable archaeological and museum exhibition value.Description:This vase is a rare imperial display vessel crafted at the official Ru kilns of Northern Song Dynasty, representing top-tier court celadon art of the Song era. It adopts a classic minimalist silhouette with straight tall cylindrical neck, full rounded globular belly and shallow splayed foot ring. The narrow mouth slightly flares outward, paired with an elongated upright neck that delivers soft, balanced lines, seamlessly merging into a plump spherical body resting on a short flared foot, embodying the subtle, restrained aesthetic philosophy favored by Song imperial courts. The entire interior and exterior are covered in signature Ru sky-celadon thick velvety glaze, fully covered with natural fine ice crackle patterns. The glaze surface is speckled with multi-toned russet original burial soil stains untouched for over a thousand years, retaining unaltered excavation patina with no modern cleaning or polishing. The inner rim is also fully glazed with crackled sky blue celadon, delivering soft, muted luster without harsh artificial sheen. The foot ring is entirely glazed except for three tiny sesame-sized spur marks at the center base, the iconic firing technique exclusive to Northern Song Ru imperial wares. Ru kilns only produced porcelain for the imperial palace for a very brief period, leading to an extremely limited surviving population of intact pieces. This long-neck vase boasts a rare vessel shape, authentic Ru glaze tone, natural crackle and characteristic spur marks consistent with Northern Song Ru standards, plus fully preserved original burial patina without over-cleaning. It carries profound academic research value, museum display potential and elite ancient porcelain collection value, ranking as a rare complete ornamental Ru vase from the Song Dynasty.
