Dimensions:Overall Height 15cm(5.91in),10-13th century Song dynasty bluish white porcelainCondition & Provenance:The jar and lid form an original matching intact set, no cracks, chips or missing sections. Only faint natural soil abrasion exists around the foot ring from burial, untouched original excavated state. The glaze is even and smooth with tiny natural brown speckles embedded in the clay body, inherent to ancient porcelain raw materials, no later restoration or re-glazing. Sculpted vertical ribs, four lugs and curved pointed finial retain crisp, unaltered detail, and the hand-spun base foot fully preserves original cutting craft. This piece comes from the private collection of a seasoned ancient Chinese porcelain collector based in Hong Kong, acquired from a reputable antique ceramic gallery in Kuala Lumpur in 2016. Complete matching lidded four-lug qingbai jars dating to the Song Dynasty are extremely scarce on the global market; this fully intact specimen with clear molded ornament serves as a standard reference artifact for southern Chinese Song kiln wares.Description:This complete lidded storage jar is hand-thrown bluish white qingbai porcelain manufactured at a southern Chinese kiln during the Song Dynasty, featuring perfectly matched original jar and lid standing 15 centimeters tall. The vessel boasts a full, rounded bulbous belly with a short straight rim; four evenly spaced bridge-shaped lugs project outward from the shoulder, designed for threading cord to carry and store contents in ancient daily life. Multiple sets of triple parallel vertical raised ribs run the full height of the jar, paired with subtle concentric throwing spiral lines across the body that showcase authentic hand-building pottery techniques. The matching lid features a distinctive upward-curving hook-shaped pointed finial, decorated with identical vertical ribbing that visually harmonizes with the jar’s body for balanced unified design. The entire surface is coated in a soft pale bluish-white translucent glaze, dotted with tiny natural dark brown mineral flecks native to the original clay, with zero artificial aging treatments. The base is flat with hand-trimmed spiral-cut foot ring exposing pale grey clay; the compact dry clay bears light natural yellow burial soil patina, characteristic of civilian Song kiln production. This functional vessel was widely used for household storage and burial interment in the Song era. Its qingbai glaze technology evolved from Tang white porcelain with creative local improvements, while vertical ribbing reinforces the thin ceramic body alongside decorative appeal, and four carrying lugs reflect ancient practical storage needs. Surviving fully intact matching lidded small four-lug qingbai jars are remarkably rare after a thousand years. It fully retains all core manufacturing techniques of southern Song kilns including hand throwing, glazing and sculpting, delivering substantial academic value for ceramic archaeology and research on Song daily life artifacts, ideal for specialized ancient porcelain collections and museum long-term display.
