Dimensions: Rim Diameter 11cm (4.33in), Overall Height 15.5cm (6.10in), 12th to 13th CenturyCondition & Provenance: The jar is entirely intact without cracks, chips, glaze flaking or any restoration work. Fine original crackle covers the glaze surface, the flowing purple kiln‑splash is completely natural, and the rim bears genuine age‑related patina. The exposed base reveals coarse ancient pottery body with distinct granular inclusions, free of any modern artificial aging treatments. This jar was once owned by a private ancient‑porcelain collector in Hong Kong, and passed into a private Oriental art collection in Miami, Florida, USA in 2012, before being released onto the market in 2024. Complete Song Jun jars decorated with studded bosses and beast‑head ring handles are quite scarce, and fine authentic examples like this seldom circulate within North American collecting circles.Description: This is a distinctive decorative storage jar from the Song Jun kilns. It features a flared mouth, short constricted neck, full rounded shoulder, bulging body tapering gently toward the base, and flat foot ring, delivering a robust and well‑proportioned silhouette. A row of rounded raised stud bosses runs evenly just below the rim. Symmetric molded beast‑head ring appliqués are applied on both sides of the vessel wall; the beast faces have crisp defined facial features with antique hanging‑ring design, exhibiting strong three‑dimensional relief effect. The whole jar is coated with thick, luscious moon‑white Jun glaze, covered with fine natural ice‑crack crackle accumulated over centuries. One side of the belly is adorned with large cloud‑like kiln‑changed purple splash, purple‑blue streaks flow downward following the glaze movement with rich shifting color layers, representing the signature natural kiln‑transformation aesthetic of Jun ware. Where glaze thins at the mouth rim, the underlying tan‑brown clay body peeks out, carrying authentic wear from long‑term historical transmission. Glaze does not fully cover the base, exposing pale yellow‑brown coarse pottery clay mixed with tiny dark mineral specks. The hand‑trimming on foot ring is unrefined and archaic, concentric turning marks are visible at the center of base, and dripping glaze beads form naturally along the foot edge, typical production traits of folk‑produced Song Jun wares. This artifact skillfully combines studded boss ornamentation, beast‑head ring relief and Jun kiln thick glaze with spontaneous kiln color transformation. It fully preserves the complete manufacturing, glazing and firing characteristics of Northern Song Jun kilns, serving as a vital reference artifact for academic research on Jun kiln decorative techniques and transformative glaze technology. It is a top‑tier collectible for specialized high‑ancient porcelain collections and qualifies for long‑term museum exhibitions focusing on Song‑dynasty kiln ceramics, carrying great archaeological significance, natural kiln‑glaze artistic merit and research value for Song‑period interior furnishing culture.
