拍品描述

Dimensions:Overall height 31.5 cm (12.4 in), 10th–13th Century CECondition & Provenance:The vase is fully intact with no cracks, chips, glaze repair or restoration. The glossy black ground glaze and natural splashed flambé patterns remain completely original, free of modern repainting or surface polishing. The small folded rim glaze is undamaged. The unglazed base foot features dry coarse clay coated with authentic aged burial patina, only marked by faint gentle wear accumulated over centuries. This artifact was previously kept in a private Hong Kong collection specializing in pre-Yuan ancient porcelain, then acquired in 2025 by a veteran antique ceramic collector based in Miami, Florida, USA, with full provenance records and official appraisal documentation from professional cultural relic institutions attached.Description:This classic flambé meiping vase originates from China’s Song-era Jizhou kilns in southern Jiangxi, representing the peak of natural glaze aesthetics from ancient southern Chinese folk kilns. It follows the canonical meiping silhouette: tiny folded lip mouth, short narrow neck, broad rounded shoulders, an elongated tapering body and flat unglazed base. The overall contour is tall, slender and perfectly proportioned, crafted to serve both as wine storage vessel and elegant display ornament for traditional scholar halls. The entire body is covered with a deep, glossy jet-black glaze base. During firing, iron-rich brown slip was splashed freely onto the glaze; under extreme kiln heat, the mineral pigment melted and flowed organically into abstract streaked flambé markings. The rusty orange core of each streak bleeds out into fine beige hare’s fur filaments, crisscrossing and dripping vertically across the black glaze to form a wild landscape pattern of mountains and mist, entirely formed by kiln chemistry without any hand-painted outlines. The glaze carries rich glass luster, the deep black base creating striking visual contrast against the warm earth-toned flambé streaks. The unglazed flat base reveals coarse, porous native Jizhou clay with natural yellowish burial stains, and the transition line between glaze and raw clay is consistent with authentic Song Jizhou production standards. Complete Jizhou flambé meiping vases are scarce on the global antique market, and specimens with such expansive, unrestrained splashed flambé patterns are extremely rare. This piece perfectly preserves the unique splashed glaze firing technique exclusive to Jizhou kilns, acting as a key reference artifact for academic research on southern black glaze flambé technology, Song dynasty meiping vessel typology, and the ancient Chinese appreciation for natural abstract ceramic art. It is highly sought-after among ancient porcelain collectors across North America, delivering exceptional artistic value and stable long-term investment appreciation potential.
