Dimensions: Overall Height 17cm (6.69in), Southern Song Dynasty, 12th to 13th CenturyCondition & Provenance: The vase is entirely intact without cracks, chips or restoration work. The dark brown decorative rim band stays fully preserved. The glaze is covered in fine natural age crackle formed over hundreds of years, no artificially added crackle for faking age. The black background and off-white floral pigments bond tightly to the glaze, only extremely faint natural wear exists on tiny glaze spots with no large flaking of painted layers. The unglazed base foot shows dry, primitive clay texture with distinct wheel trimming marks and natural aged soil patina, no grinding or clay repair. Market destination: Hong Kong. This piece belonged to a veteran private collector of Song ceramics in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It was purchased from an antique shop on Hollywood Road, Hong Kong in 1998, with complete original purchase slips and full collection archives retained.Description: This slender long-neck water chestnut vase is a representative Song decorative porcelain from Jiangnan Jizhou Kiln. It follows classic water chestnut vase silhouette: small flared rim, narrow straight long neck, rounded plump lower belly tapering to a flat ring foot, featuring soft elongated elegant proportions and compact delicate size. The whole vessel is coated with dark brown black glaze as background first, then fully covered scrolling floral patterns outlined with off-white slip. The full blooming flowers carry layered petals, leaves display clear vein lines, twisting vines fill every inch of the vase body, creating a dense yet orderly all-over design with striking color contrast that grabs the eye instantly. A single dark brown line frames the rim, and double brown decorative bands wrap around the outer base foot, forming neat symmetrical upper and lower decorative borders. Fine natural crackle spreads all over the glaze, a signature aging feature of Jizhou slip-painted porcelain, while the light gray loose clay body matches the native clay raw material of Jizhou kiln site. Jizhou wares with black ground and white slip painting are rarer than their white-ground counterparts. Undamaged long-neck vases fully covered in floral scrolls like this specimen are scarce surviving antiques, boasting layered elaborate painting and perfectly preserved form with distinct aesthetic traits of southern folk kilns in Song China. It is highly sought after by overseas East Asian ceramic collectors, holding both display aesthetic value and academic collection worth.
