Category: Pre-Song porcelain, market destination: Hong Kong. This set was the private collection of a seasoned ancient ceramic collector in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. The collector acquired this group from an antique shop in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong in 2003, all original transaction receipts and full collection logs are well-preserved.Description: This complete four-piece group of tiny desk vases was fired at Yue Kiln during the Five Dynasties, a classic set of celadon decorative wares from Jiangnan in the Five Dynasties era. Each vase features a unique silhouette: a short jar with constricted mouth, olive-shaped vase with flared rim, narrow-neck pear-shaped vase, and globular vase with wide plate rim. All sizes are compact and delicate, crafted for desk display and small flower arrangements. Every vessel’s exterior is fully decorated with hand-executed comb-chop carving, covered in dense diagonal textured lines that create striking three-dimensional texture. A single subtle horizontal ring line encircles the midsection of each piece for balanced layout, consistent craftsmanship across the whole set. The glaze is muted grayish celadon with natural mottled brown kiln discoloration; dark brown glaze concentrates on rims and shoulders, softly fading into pale celadon toward the base, presenting a matte, gentle primitive aesthetic. The unglazed bases reveal compact gray-brown clay body, matching the standard clay and glaze traits of regional Yue Kiln workshops from the Five Dynasties. Complete matched sets of miniature desk ceramics from the Five Dynasties are extremely scarce on the antique market. This four-piece suite retains undamaged crisp carving, unified natural kiln glaze variation, making it a rare specimen with both academic research value for medieval ceramic craft and timeless oriental decor appeal, widely sought after by ancient porcelain collectors worldwide.
