The inner cavity and base are unglazed to reveal pale white pottery clay, distinct wheel-turning spiral marks can be seen on the clay body with even natural ancient soil patina, zero artificial polishing or fake aging treatment. Category: Pre-Song porcelain, market destination: Hong Kong. This cosmetic box comes from the private collection of a veteran Tang Sancai collector in Sai Wan, Hong Kong. The collector bought this piece from a time-honored antique gallery in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong back in 2000, all original purchase receipts and professional thermoluminescence testing certificates are fully preserved.description: This round cosmetic box with hand-dotted Sancai glaze was fired at the Gongxian Kiln during China’s prosperous Tang Dynasty, a daily makeup vessel for noble Tang ladies. Complete matching sets of this style are pretty rare on today’s antique market. It has a neat flat circular shape with tight interlocking rim, the lid locks firmly to the base without wobbling or gaps. The whole piece is decorated with hand-painted dotted glaze craft: the lid center features four-linked bead geometric patterns, surrounded by circular intertwined dots of amber yellow, sapphire blue and emerald green, delivering rich layered visual effects. Even vertical green stripes line the side of the lid, and the whole belly of the box is covered with grid green dot patterns arranged in symmetrical order, blending exotic Silk Road art elements and traditional Tang aesthetic taste. Made from white pottery clay with low-temperature lead glaze firing, the glaze delivers soft mild luster, covered in fine natural crackle formed over thousands of years underground, with faint iridescent rainbow patina on partial areas. The inner cavity is plain unglazed clay, the flat base shows clear wheel-making spiral lines on dry porous clay, which is the typical clay characteristic of Tang Gongxian Kiln. This box retains full intact painted patterns and flawless body condition, acting as a key physical specimen for academic research on Sino-foreign ceramic pattern integration and Tang Sancai painting techniques, carrying outstanding archaeological significance and top-tier decorative collectible value among ancient Chinese ceramics.
