The interior and exterior are fully covered with thick uniform light celadon glaze with rich jade texture, only tiny scattered brown natural soil specks on the body, no large-scale glaze loss or peeling. The lid rim, jar mouth rim and foot ring expose a pale reddish clay body with dense fine texture, the exposed clay shows natural aging without artificial polishing or renovation. Category: Song Dynasty porcelain, market destination: Hong Kong. This lidded jar originates from the private collection of Wilson Wong, a distinguished specialist collector of Longquan celadon based in Hong Kong. He acquired this piece at Christie’s Hong Kong Ancient Porcelain Auction in 2015, with complete original auction catalog, thermoluminescence dating report and official antique ceramic appraisal certificate fully preserved.Description: This light celadon glazed lidded jar with pearl knob fired at Longquan kiln during China’s Southern Song Dynasty is a classic tea storage ware for Song literati tea rooms. It consists of two matching parts: the jar body and a fitted lid with central knob, the interlocking rim locks tightly together. The lid features a gentle arched surface crowned by a plump rounded pearl knob for easy lifting, delivering minimalist elegant styling. The jar body adopts a deep rounded bowl shape with contracted mouth, smooth full curved walls tapering gently down to a short thick stable ring foot. The whole vessel boasts seamless soft flowing lines and perfectly balanced proportions, fully embracing the minimalist aesthetic favored by Song intellectuals, relying solely on pure glaze tone for visual charm rather than complex decorative patterns. The inner cavity and outer walls are entirely coated with thick creamy light celadon glaze, the glaze layer is rich and velvety with the iconic soft pale turquoise hue exclusive to Southern Song Longquan wares. The smooth refined glaze surface emits subtle soft luster just like natural nephrite jade, only several tiny natural soil stains scattered on the exterior, harmless aging marks accumulated over centuries that do not impair the overall condition. Glaze is shaved away on the lid rim, jar mouth and foot ring to reveal reddish fine hard clay, the exposed clay edges carry a natural pale brown oxidation layer formed by long-term aging. Precise neat trimming on the foot ring is a standard craftsmanship feature of major Southern Song Longquan kilns. Song literati widely used this type of lidded celadon jar to store tea leaves and incense due to its excellent sealing performance, an essential decorative practical ware for ancient studies and tea spaces. This lidded jar features standard authentic celadon glaze, complete original matching set, distinct period clay and glaze markers and outstanding conservation condition. It serves as a standard surviving specimen of Southern Song Longquan light celadon, holding tangible archaeological research value for Song ceramic history, elegant display aesthetic value for traditional study spaces and premium high-end ancient celadon collectible value for global collectors.
