Shaped as an eight-sided polygonal vessel, it features a narrow short neck, broad rounded shoulders, tapered midsection and flat trimmed base, delivering a sleek, elongated balanced silhouette. Eight raised vertical ribs divide the exterior into equal panels, each panel decorated with two tiers of deeply carved interlocking lotus scrollwork. Curving winding vines frame full blooming lotus flowers, rendered with varied carving depth that creates striking three-dimensional layered relief detail. The whole vessel is covered in thick, luscious kinuta celadon glaze, a signature glaze of Southern Song Longquan production. The soft pale turquoise hue is evenly distributed with a warm jade-like tactile texture, the thick translucent glaze developed fine interlocking ice crack craze over centuries of natural aging, paired with a muted, understated antique luster. The small mouth rim is neatly trimmed during shaping, with faint pale yellow discoloration where the glaze thins along the edge. The base is left unglazed to expose pale gray clay, encircled by a natural band of burnt reddish kiln staining, a natural byproduct of dragon wood-fired kilns used in Longquan production. Kinuta pale celadon wares from the Southern Song are scarce on the antique market. Polygonal octagonal forms carried far higher firing failure rates than standard round vases, and large prunus vases fully decorated with intact carved floral motifs are exceptionally hard to source. This specimen showcases textbook period features including standard kinuta glaze tone, sharp well-preserved carved ornamentation, precise octagonal molding and authentic kiln reddening on the base. It serves as an essential physical reference for academic research on Southern Song Longquan kiln manufacturing techniques, pale celadon glaze firing technology and ancient Chinese floral display culture. It carries profound archaeological research significance for Chinese ceramic history, timeless decorative aesthetic value for traditional antique interior styling and elite collectible value for global high-end Song porcelain collectors.
