Dimensions: Rim Diameter 12cm (4.72in), Overall Height 5cm (1.97in), Yuan Dynasty, 13th to 14th CenturyCondition & Provenance: The entire washer is fully intact without cracks, chips or restorations. Uniform bean green glaze covers both interior and exterior with smooth antique patina. The neat ring of studs along the rim, molded circular ornaments and three supporting feet are all complete with no missing pieces. Thin glaze edges reveal natural rusty kiln discoloration. The unglazed foot ring features dense raw clay with a glazed patch at the center, showing natural layered kiln reddening with no artificial re-glazing or polishing to fake age. Category: Song-Yuan Longquan celadon, market destination: Hong Kong. This tripod washer comes from the private collection of William Wang, a collector based in San Francisco, California. It was purchased at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Song and Yuan Ceramics Auction in 2020. Full auction documents, thermoluminescence dating report and professional antique ceramic appraisal certificate are all preserved.Description: This bean green glazed tripod washer from Yuan Longquan kilns is a refined scholar’s desk artifact, used as a writing brush washer, display piece and small incense burner. Its design draws inspiration from ancient bronze gui vessels and bronze tripods, delivering understated classical charm. The vessel features a shallow, wide circular basin with an open mouth lined by a continuous band of raised studs. Raised nipple studs and circular molded appliqués scatter across the outer wall, while three outward-curling ruyi-cloud shaped feet support the base for stable placement. The whole silhouette carries soft, rounded balanced contours. Thick, lush bean green glaze coats every interior and exterior surface, presenting a calm, muted green tone with prominent jade-like texture. The translucent thick glaze developed fine natural craze over centuries of aging. Where glaze thins on rim studs, molded motifs and foot edges, natural terracotta kiln reddening emerges with seamless organic transition. The foot ring is neatly trimmed; the outer ring is unglazed with original kiln staining, and a small protective glaze patch remains at the center bottom, a signature mark of wood-fired dragon kilns at major Yuan Longquan production sites. Producing this studded tripod washer demanded advanced firing skill. Three-dimensional molded appliqués and rim studs often warped or chipped during high-temperature firing, so fully preserved specimens with consistent glaze are extremely scarce in today’s antique market. This washer boasts balanced proportions, intact raised decorative elements, authentic aged bean green glaze and textbook kiln reddening on the base with zero post-firing damage. It acts as an essential physical reference for academic research on Yuan Longquan scholar’s wares production, celadon glaze firing techniques and traditional Chinese literati study culture. It holds great archaeological research value for Chinese ceramic history, timeless aesthetic value for classical Chinese study room decor and high-tier collectible value for global premium Longquan celadon collectors.
