Description:This huge blue‑and‑white porcelain charger is an important imperial porcelain piece dating back to 15th‑century Yongle reign of Ming dynasty. It features wide flared rim, shallow curved cavity and fully unglazed sandy base.Such enormous size brought tremendous firing challenges for ancient porcelain craftsmen.Central interior field is dominated by large interlocking peony scrolls.Multiple full‑bloomed peonies spread across the center with lavish layered petals.Painter applied varying cobalt washes to create rich tonal depth, stems and leaves twist and interweave freely.Composition is well‑balanced, brushwork is bold and energetic, every petal and leaf shows confident hand‑painted details. The broad rim band is filled with continuous scrolling seasonal blossoms including lotus, chrysanthemum and camellia, arranged in endless repeating scroll patterns.Double blue contour lines divide different decorative zones clearly.Exterior wall is decorated with auspicious fruit sprigs, pomegranate, litchi and peach motifs symbolizing prosperity, fertility and longevity. This charger uses imported “Sumali” cobalt pigment typical of early Ming. The saturated deep‑blue color produces characteristic iron rust spots that sink slightly beneath glaze surface, which is iconic feature of Yongle‑Xuande blue‑and‑white wares. The glaze has soft bluish‑white tone with thick luscious texture and subdued antique luster. The base is raw sandy unglazed porcelain, heavy solid body shows obvious wheel‑turning traces covered by decades‑old soil stains and layered patina.Chargers of this monumental scale were mostly made for diplomatic display and overseas exchange during Yongle era.Surviving intact examples are extremely uncommon. This well‑preserved large charger with complete vibrant decoration represents top‑tier early Ming porcelain with outstanding historical, artistic and collectible importance.
