Measurements:Mouth diameter 7.5 cm / 2.95 inches, height 6.5 cm / 2.56 inches, 14th CenturyCondition & Provenance:A single ancient natural crack runs through the cup body. Yellowish-brown burial patina covers the rim, interior, exterior and tall stem entirely. Distinct wheel-throwing spiral marks remain inside the hollow stem, and natural aged weathering texture can be seen on the unglazed base foot, with no modern repair or polishing work. This stem cup was originally part of a private Hong Kong collection of Song and Yuan white porcelain. It was purchased by a private antique ceramic collector based in Chicago, Illinois in 2019 and stored long-term in a temperature-controlled, dust-free storage space.Object Description:This white glazed stem cup was crafted at Jingdezhen kilns during China’s Yuan Dynasty, a popular wine vessel used by ordinary people back then. It features a wide flared rim, deep curved bowl body, paired with a tall slender hollow stem that flares slightly at the bottom foot, creating a balanced, primitive silhouette. The whole piece is covered with thin matte white glaze, stained with uneven yellow-brown soil patina from long underground burial that seeped into the glaze layers naturally. The relic retains its fully original excavated state with no modern cleaning or restoration. The old crack on the bowl formed underground hundreds of years ago, a natural flaw from excavation. Handmade wheel spiral lines are clearly visible inside the hollow stem, showing authentic ancient ceramic production techniques. The base foot is unglazed, revealing coarse off-white clay with dry, weathered texture that proves its genuine age. Stem cups like this are iconic daily porcelain pieces of the Yuan Dynasty. This untouched excavated specimen keeps all original age marks and craft details, making it an excellent physical reference for studying folk kiln manufacturing methods and ancient wine drinking vessel shapes of the Yuan period, great for both display and academic research purposes.
