Measurements:Length 120 cm / 47.24 inches, width unmarked, height 86 cm / 33.86 inches, 19th Century Qing Dynasty, Category: Miscellaneous, Core trading markets: New York State, Vancouvercondition & Provenance:The entire table features tight, stable original mortise and tenon joinery with no disassembly over time. The tabletop remains flat and intact without major splits. The double layers of relief carvings—interlocking spiral meander patterns and full lotus petal moldings along the perimeter—are fully preserved with no chips or missing carved sections. Four straight square legs are undamaged, their vertical linear relief carvings fully intact, and the rounded scroll feet with circular spiral motifs show no loss. The front stretcher with twisted rope carvings and dual hollow jade bi disc decorations is fully intact, the twisted rope texture sharply defined. All original cross stretchers and base bottom panels underneath are retained, carrying natural aged stains and old lacquer from centuries of use with no replacement wood panels. The zitan hardwood surface bears a thick, translucent antique patina built over generations, only minor soft wear on outer edges from regular use. There is no fire damage, wood borers, heavy restoration work or later modified components. This piece was consigned from a historic Manhattan Chinese antiques gallery in New York back in 2018, then acquired by a dedicated private collector of classical Chinese hardwood furniture based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It’s been stored in climate-controlled conditions full-time, never refinished, sanded or re-varnished, maintaining its fully authentic original surface and all factory-original parts.object Description:This rectangular long side table is a late Qing Dynasty masterpiece crafted from premium solid zitan hardwood, a staple furnishing for literati scholars’ halls in traditional China. The tabletop is framed around a single solid wood panel, edged with two layers of carved moldings. The upper band is fully covered in repeating geometric spiral meander patterns, while the lower tier is wrapped with plump, three-dimensional carved lotus petal relief, creating elaborate layered detail. Four straight square legs are decorated with vertical linear carvings down each face, terminating in outward-curving rounded scroll feet engraved with circular vortex motifs. Full-length stretchers run along the front and rear sides, carved to mimic twisted woven rope with knotted rope ring terminals, paired with two hollow circular jade bi disc cutouts at the center. The rope carving is ultra-detailed and lifelike, capturing the texture of real twisted cordage, marking this as a classic late Qing design defined by rope and bi disc iconography. The complete original understructure stretchers and bottom base panels survive beneath the table, bearing untouched natural aged marks with no artificial cleaning or refinishing. Large solid zitan furniture pieces are already scarce on the antique market, and fully intact side tables with complete sets of intricate rope and bi disc carvings are extremely rare. The complex, delicate carving craftsmanship delivers both striking decorative display value and significant academic research potential for antique Chinese furniture. It is highly sought after by veteran North American collectors of classical Chinese hardwood pieces, ranking among the most desirable categories in overseas antique furniture auctions.
