拍品描述

Measurements:Overall height 10 cm / 3.94 inches, horizontal width 4 cm / 1.57 inches, total weight 3185 grams, Han Dynasty, Category: Bronze Figurine, Primary trading market: CaliforniaCondition & Provenance:The entire figurine was cast as a single piece via ancient mold casting, without split assembly or post-weld repairs. The bronze core is thick, dense and uniform. Multi-layer natural patina covers the whole piece, with deep reddish bronze base metal capped by thick, stable malachite green rust that adheres firmly to the bronze matrix, free of artificial chemical rust coating or loose surface patina. Facial features, hairstyles and body contours of both figures remain fully intact, with no major breaks or missing limbs; only minor light burial wear exists on partial edges. Original casting sprues and mold lines on the base are untouched, with no grinding or rework. The rust crust is stable, with no flaking, peeling or internal powdery corrosion. This Han bronze fertility figurine was unearthed from an ancient tomb in Sichuan province. It entered a renowned Chinese antique collector’s collection in the 1940s, was exported overseas in 1952, and was acquired by a Los Angeles-based private bronze specialist collector in California, USA in 2001. The artifact has been preserved long-term in temperature and humidity controlled storage, retaining its untouched original burial patina and casting details with fully documented cross-collection provenance.Object Description:This solid bronze coitus couple figurine from China’s Han Dynasty is a museum-quality rare miniature bronze folk artifact. Cast monolithically using traditional lost-wax mold casting, the piece depicts a realistic intimate couple pose with distinctly carved hairstyles to differentiate the two figures. Simplified, archaic facial carving and lifelike body proportions reflect authentic Han Dynasty sculptural aesthetics. Such bronze fertility statuettes embody ancient Chinese worship of procreation, blessings for descendants and harmonious marriage, commonly buried as grave goods or displayed as household talismans during the Han period. Crafted from high-purity dense bronze, the figurine developed multi-tonal natural red and green burial patina over thousands of years underground, with seamless color transition fused deep into the metal. Complete unbroken Han bronze coitus figurines with original undisturbed burial rust are extremely scarce worldwide. This artifact delivers immense collectible and academic value covering Han Dynasty bronze casting techniques, ancient folk customs and early Chinese fertility culture, consistently a top priority for California auctions specializing in ancient Chinese bronzes.
