The whole piece bears rich, warm reddish-brown antique patina accumulated over centuries, smooth and lustrous, with no splits, insect damage or missing carved sections. Deep relief carving depicts mountains, ancient pine trees, scholar figures, a boy attendant and a Go board. Robe folds, pine needles and rock textures feature sharp, well-defined multi-layered carving with zero worn or chipped details. The curved top and bottom edges are smoothly polished with no chips or nicks. This wrist rest originated from a classical Chinese scholar’s study collection in Jiangnan. It was exported overseas via Hong Kong antique dealers in the 1990s, then acquired by a private scholar’s art collector based in Seattle, Washington State, USA in 2001.
