Measurements:Mouth diameter 15 cm / 5.91 inches, height 4.5 cm / 1.77 inches, Song Dynasty, Category: Pre‑Ming Ancient Porcelain, Primary trading market: Hong KongCondition & Provenance:The bowl is formed with compact grey‑white clay body. It is fully covered with soft celadon glaze covered in fine natural aged crackle patterns. Vertical raised rib lines run along the outer wall, and the floral rim is neatly trimmed. The short foot ring is well‑shaped, the exposed base bears natural burial soil patina and iron‑rust firing discoloration original from excavation. One old hairline crack is visible on interior glaze, no major glaze loss, chips, modern fill‑in glaze or restoration, keeps its original unearthed condition. This tea bowl was excavated from a Song kiln site in southern China. It entered a well‑established Hong Kong antique gallery in 1990s, then collected by a respected private early porcelain collector in Hong Kong in 2006. Kept inside dark protective storage box for decades, it retains untouched original glaze and burial patina with complete provenance documents.Object Description:This Song‑period celadon floral‑rim tea bowl with raised ribs is a representative folk‑kiln tea vessel of Song China. It adopts the classic “douli” wide‑flared hat‑shape, with floral‑shaped opening, sloping thin walls tapering down to a small foot, light and elegant silhouette perfectly suited for the popular Song‑dynasty whisked tea drinking culture. Vertical raised ribs run from rim down toward base to add visual texture. Both interior and exterior are coated with soft pale celadon glaze covered with natural ice‑crack crackle developed over centuries, presenting restrained, mellow glaze luster. The foot shows authentic Song trimming technique, natural iron‑rust discoloration and soil encrustation on exposed body, reflecting the simple, understated aesthetic favored in Song times. Though Song hat‑style tea bowls are not extremely rare, intact examples with floral rim, raised ribs and untouched excavated glaze are quite desirable. It delivers great collecting and research value for Song tea culture and ancient kiln technology, regularly featured in Hong Kong early Chinese porcelain auctions.
