Dimensions:Height 35 cm (13.78 in),Base Width 25 cm (9.84 in),Weight 7.03kg,16th‑17th Centurycondition & Provenance:The figure is fully intact without breaks or missing pieces. The original gilt‑lacquer survives in large areas.Natural wear and minor flaking occur on raised surfaces including face, crown, jewelry and robe folds from centuries of devotional handling, exposing original bronze underneath.Thick aged patina and ancient bronze patina remain deep within crevices. All cast and engraved patterns stay crisp with no modern over‑polishing or restoration work. The lotus base is complete with minor old nicks consistent with long‑term household worship.Provenance:Long‑established private Chinese collection in Los Angeles,California,United States.Acquired in the 1990s and kept within one family until present.Description:This large‑sized late Ming Han‑style Guanyin statue is entirely cast in fine bronze using lost‑wax casting, heavy and substantial in weight, qualifying as a high‑rank devotional Buddhist figure of the Ming period. The Bodhisattva sits in full lotus posture upon a well‑formed lotus throne with plump lotus petals. She wears an elaborate openwork high crown decorated with scrolling foliage.A small Amitabha Buddha, the identifying emblem of Guanyin,is set at the center of the crown. The face is full and well‑proportioned, with softly lowered eyes conveying calm compassion.Large flower‑shaped earrings hang from both ears with flowing ribbon pendants.Three horizontal neck lines are carved on the neck. The chest is ornamented by multi‑layer beaded necklaces and pendants, every bead and drop meticulously cast and engraved.Multiple layers of celestial robes drape over the body.Shawls with knotted hanging sashes fall over shoulders.Robe surfaces are densely engraved with scrolling lotus blossoms and cloud motifs.Folds flow realistically with fine detailed ornament along all hems. Her right hand rises in the teaching mudra with delicate, natural‑looking fingers. Her left hand holds the sacred water vase before her abdomen in a graceful pose. The entire surface is finished with lacquer‑applied gilding,a typical Ming technique different from mercury gilding.Having been worshipped with incense for hundreds of years, gilding wears down on high points yet remains well preserved in recessed areas.Deep layered antique patina has developed across exposed bronze. This sculpture faithfully reflects aesthetic standards of Han Chinese Buddhist art of the Ming Dynasty.Facial features, costume, jewelry and hand gestures all match period stylistic norms.Casting and engraving quality are exceptionally high. With impressive scale,it works wonderfully for display and devotional use.It represents an important collectible work of ancient Chinese Buddhist art.
