Dimensions: Mouth Diameter 19.5 cm (7.68 in), Height 7.5 cm (2.95 in)Condition & Provenance: This bowl features Yue‑ware’s signature pale grey‑white porcelain body with dense, solid fabric. The exposed foot rim bears original ancient firing‑induced rust‑red discoloration. An original vintage collection label from Marchant of London remains affixed to the base. No acid washing or artificial polishing has ever been applied. The full celadon glaze is intact across the vessel with a soft, lustrous finish. Only minimal age‑related surface wear from centuries of survival is present. There are no cracks, chips, glued repairs, later‑added glaze or post‑manufacture carving. Only gentle conservative dust cleaning was performed. This large bowl came from the private collection of a respected Hong‑Kong collector specializing in pre‑Song Yue‑ware celadon for over thirty years. He purchased this important piece directly from Marchant Antiques of London in 1998. It was housed long‑term in a climate‑controlled private display cabinet solely for study and viewing. It has never appeared at auction nor been included in public museum exhibitions. It is freshly released from family estate settlement. Full provenance documentation is available upon request.Description: This is a high‑status large lobed Yue‑ware bowl from the Five‑Dynasty era, made for elite‑class daily use and interior display. Its rim is shaped into six soft floral lobes. Six vertical indentations run down the bowl walls following each petal, creating a full, well‑proportioned silhouette with beautifully flowing curves, supported by a neatly trimmed narrow foot. The interior is fully decorated with fine incised ornament. At the center sits a vividly rendered mandarin duck, encircled by layered rolling water waves executed with tight fine lines that sweep all around the inner surface. The entire piece inside and out is covered with soft olive‑toned celadon glaze. The glaze is silky and translucent; light plays across the raised and recessed carved surfaces, bringing the whole decorative scene to life. Yue‑ware marks the high‑water point of southern Chinese celadon craftsmanship before the Song Dynasty. This well‑preserved large‑scale specimen qualifies as museum‑quality. It delivers strong visual presence and genuine antique character, perfectly suited for serious early‑Chinese‑ceramic collections and interior display.
