Dimensions: Rim Diameter 13.5 cm (5.31 in), Height 14.3 cm (5.63 in)Condition & Provenance: This ewer is made of Jizhou‑kiln off‑white coarse ceramic body. Unglazed base bears distinct original wheel‑turning marks, genuine age‑related patina fully preserved, no acid washing or artificial polishing. Black glaze and natural splash decoration remain intact with glossy surface, only minor age‑related wear. Spout and handle are original integral parts of the vessel. No penetrating cracks, major chips or restoration. All splash patterns are genuine kiln‑fired effects without later added pigment. Only gentle conservative dust cleaning has been performed. This ewer was once part of a serious private collection in Massachusetts focused on Song southern folk kilns. The collector accumulated over thirty‑years experience in ancient folk ceramics. It was acquired from a Hong‑Kong antique gallery in 2000. After entering United States collection, it was stored long‑term in climate‑controlled private cabinet for study and viewing only. It has never been consigned to auction or public exhibition. Freshly released from family estate dispersal, complete provenance files are available upon request.description: This black‑glazed splash‑pattern ewer was produced at Jizhou kiln in Song dynasty, serving as daily wine‑and‑tea vessel. It has flared mouth, contracted neck, full rounded shoulder and tapering belly, supported by flat ring foot. A short straight spout sits on one side, opposite a curved handle decorated with bead‑shaped ornaments. Lower body is left unglazed revealing coarse ceramic paste, base displays typical Song‑dynasty wheel‑cut marks. Upper portion is covered with glossy deep brown‑black glaze, overlaid with freely splashed milky‑white kiln‑transformation streaks and patches. Patterns flow spontaneously with strong visual contrast between dark ground and light splashes. Jizhou kiln is widely celebrated for its diverse black‑glaze kiln‑change decorations. This well‑preserved ewer boasts powerful shape and expressive abstract splashes, perfectly representing the uninhibited artistic taste of Song folk ceramics. It is a substantial authentic Jizhou artifact, excellent for specialized antique‑ceramic collection and interior display.
