拍品描述

Dimensions:Height 6 cm (2‑3/8 in), Maximum Belly Diameter 8.2 cm (3‑1/4 in), Tang Dynasty (7‑10th Century)Condition & Provenance:The vessel is largely intact, no major cracks or chips. Fine age‑related craquelure spreads across entire glaze surface, which is natural aging feature for Sancai pottery. Exposed base displays ancient burial patina. Minor tiny glaze flaking spots along glaze edge are normal for excavated ancient ceramics. This artifact originates from a well‑established private Asian art collection in New York City, New York. The collector obtained the piece from a European antique dealer back in 1960s, passed down within two‑generation family collection, never publicly exhibited or brought to auction.Description:This gorgeous Tang Sancai water pot is a typical ancient ceramic scholar’s desk implement from China’s golden Tang age. It has a wonderfully plump, squat pumpkin‑shaped body with a small round opening on top. Over the cream‑yellow base glaze, vertical streaks of amber‑yellow and emerald‑green pigments are brushed freely across surface. Those flowing color strokes deliver bold, uninhibited romantic artistic spirit typical of Tang craft. Fine net‑like craquelure all over glaze developed naturally over more than one thousand years. Glaze tone looks mellow and archaic, different colors blend softly together. The flat unglazed base reveals light reddish‑yellow pottery clay, cutting marks on base ring are distinct, showing authentic Tang‑period manufacturing techniques. Most Sancai wares were burial goods, yet small‑size water pots like this served as practical ink‑stone water container for ancient literati. Such functional scholar‑desk Sancai pieces are scarcer compared with large tomb‑style Sancai vessels. It retains original vibrant color palette with solid body condition. This authentic artifact truly reflects folk ceramic craftsmanship of prosperous Tang Dynasty, it is a desirable collectible for early Chinese scholar’s artifacts.
