Dimensions:Height 14 cm (5‑1/2 in), Mouth Diameter 9.3 cm (3‑21/32 in); Ming DynastyCondition & Provenance:Jar and original cover are complete. Minor glaze frits and age‑related surface wear can be seen on the elephant finial and rim edges, no heavy cracks or restorations. The unglazed base retains natural kiln‑soil patina. This Longquan celadon jar originates from a private ancient‑ceramic collection based in San Francisco, California. It was acquired from a European antiques gallery in the early 1980s and has remained within one private estate, never previously offered at public auction.Description:This well‑proportioned Longquan celadon covered jar has a stout ovoid body tapering gently toward the base, paired with a short straight neck. The matching domed lid is surmounted by a vividly modelled elephant‑shaped finial, symbolizing peace and good fortune. The entire exterior is coated in rich soft celadon‑green glaze, covered with dense natural crackle across the surface. The glaze has a warm, subtle sheen typical of Longquan wares. The mouth‑rim and base foot‑ring show exposed reddish‑brown ceramic body. Ming‑period Longquan celadon covered jars with sculpted animal finials are desirable scholar‑studio objects. This example preserves its original lid and elephant knob intact, displaying classic Longquan glaze texture and elegant overall form.
