Dimensions:Height 8.5 cm (3‑11/32 in), Mouth Diameter 8 cm (3‑5/32 in); Song DynastyCondition & Provenance:Complete, comprising lid and two stacked box sections. Minor age‑related wear along the joining rims, no cracks or major restorations. The unglazed base retains natural earth‑burial patina and discoloration. This qingbai multi‑tiered box originates from a distinguished private Song‑ceramic collection based in Boston, Massachusetts. It was acquired from a European antiques gallery in the mid‑1980s and has remained in one private family estate, never previously offered for public auction.Description:This well‑crafted Jingdezhen qingbai cosmetic box is modelled in the form of a ribbed melon, divided into three parts: a melon‑form lid with small stem‑shaped finial and two stacking box compartments for storing cosmetics, jewellery or scholar‑studio small articles. The whole exterior is moulded with evenly spaced vertical melon‑lobed fluting. It is covered with translucent, soft bluish‑white qingbai glaze, characteristic of Southern‑Song Jingdezhen ware. The base is unglazed, revealing fine‑textured porcelain body with natural burial‑induced stains. Multi‑tiered melon‑ribbed boxes are classic Song‑dynasty feminine‑use utensils. This example retains its complete original set, with neat moulding and elegant translucent glaze, representing fine quality of Song‑period Jingdezhen folk‑porcelain craftsmanship.
