Dimensions：Height 25 cm (9‑7/8 in), Width 16 cm (6‑5/16 in); Northern‑Qi DynastyCondition & Provenance：Neck broken at the base, no modern repair or filling. Surface bears natural weathering, fine age‑related cracks and residual earth encrustation. The cranial ushnisha retains finely carved spiral‑form hair curls. This stone Buddha head originates from an important collection of Chinese early Buddhist sculpture based in New York. It was acquired from a European antiquities gallery in the mid‑1980s and has remained within one private family estate, never previously offered for public auction.Description：Carved from grey limestone, this Buddha head exemplifies the serene aesthetic of Northern‑Qi Buddhist statuary. The face is full and rounded, with gently down‑cast half‑closed eyes, straight nose, and soft subtle smile conveying profound tranquility. Elongated pendulous ears extend downwards. The entire cranial surface is densely covered with meticulously carved spiral snail‑shell hair curls. Thick‑set skull and harmonious proportion represent the stylistic transition toward gentle, sinuous modelling characteristic of Northern‑Qi sculpture. Heavy ancient weathering preserves original carving detail. It is a fine representative relic of northern Chinese Buddhist stone art of the late Northern Dynasties period.
