Dimensions:Diameter 9.5cm (3‑3/4in), Height 8.5cm (3‑3/8in), Weight 226.6gCondition & Provenance:This agate bowl survives in fantastic overall original condition with no heavy chips, deep cracks or restoration work on the agate body itself. The natural stone displays faint age‑related surface scuffs and soft wear consistent with generations of gentle handling, all original polish remains intact across the smooth curved surfaces. The rich brown carved hardwood cover features elaborate open‑work scrolling‑motif carving, it shows honest vintage wear including minor surface nicks and subtle wood grain patina from long‑term use, no splits or major losses to the wood. The bright orange carnelian knob finial sits firmly mounted on the cover, solid and free of damage. The fitted wood cover was custom‑made specifically for this agate bowl during an early period, perfectly matching the bowl’s rim contour. This piece comes from a long‑established New York private estate collection, it stayed within one family’s holdings for decades and is now being brought to public auction for the first time.Description:This is a beautifully hand‑carved Chinese Qing‑period agate bowl, cut and polished from a single solid block of natural agate stone. The stone boasts spectacular natural banded color variation: milky translucent white‑grey base interwoven with swirling fiery amber‑brown and rust‑red cloud‑like patterns, some areas show striking circular eye‑shaped natural inclusions that flow organically across the curved exterior wall. The bowl has elegant rounded‑bell shape, flared rim, smoothly curved body and short raised circular foot ring, every surface is finely burnished to a glossy silky luster. Accompanying the bowl is its antique custom‑fitted hardwood cover, skillfully carved with deep open‑work scrolling cloud patterns to let incense smoke flow through, crowned by a smooth polished bright orange carnelian finial. This vessel could serve as an elegant incense burner, scholar‑studio display piece or decorative collector’s object, it perfectly showcases masterful Qing lapidary craftsmanship, highlighting the natural, breathtaking beauty of raw agate material.
