Dimensions:Height 27cm(10‑5/8in),Maximum Width 18cm(7‑1/8in)Condition & Provenance:This substantial song‑dynasty qingbai ewer comes complete with its original matching lid,a feature that is really hard to come by for these large‑scale song‑period pouring vessels. The whole piece maintains its original body without major breaks, glue‑filled repairs or invasive over‑restoration work.Fine natural crackle spreads all over both inner and outer glaze surfaces, showing genuine age‑related glaze stress accumulated over hundreds of years.Tiny scattered rust‑colored speckles and faint surface discoloration can be spotted across the glaze, produced by long‑term underground burial and natural kiln‑site firing residue. The rim edges of mouth, spout tip, handle joints and lid rim exhibit soft, smooth wear from historical usage,no harsh modern‑type chipping. The underside base is shaped following the lobed contour of the vessel body.Four distinct rust‑red burnt‑clay pad marks are clearly visible on the base, the exact firing support traces left when the piece was stacked inside the ancient Jingdezhen kiln;subtle glaze crazing also extends onto the base surface. This ewer was sourced from an old private New York state collection, the collector built up this east‑asian ceramic holding throughout the 1970s and 1980s by working with multiple respected antique dealers, and this artifact has stayed within the same family ever since;now it hits the public auction market for the absolute first time.description:This is a handsome, well‑proportioned large‑size qingbai porcelain ewer made at Jingdezhen during the song dynasty. It boasts a flared trumpet‑form mouth, elegantly tapering tall neck, and a stout vertically lobed main body, the deep vertical flutes run all the way from shoulder down toward the base, giving the whole vessel a strong rhythmic sculptural sense.A long slender curved spout extends out from one shoulder, opposite to a sturdy arched strap handle with two small suspension loops, one loop sits on the handle upper terminal and the other is set on the original lid, designed for threading cord to fasten lid onto ewer when carrying or storing. The accompanying original cover is perfectly fitted,it features a small upright loop knob for easy lifting. The entire ewer including lid is enveloped in soft translucent icy‑pale bluish‑white qingbai glaze, the glaze layer is moderately thick and even, showing gentle luster instead of modern‑style sharp bright gloss. There is no painted or molded floral ornament on this piece, its beauty totally relies on clean silhouette and powerful vertical‑lobed structural lines, which fully reflects the song‑period aesthetic pursuit of plain, subtle and understated elegance. This ewer represents daily‑use high‑grade ceramic wares for song‑dynasty upper‑class households, used for pouring wine or hot beverages;surviving examples retaining authentic original lids remain pretty scarce on today’s antique market.
