Description:This is an imperial blue‑and‑white bowl with round phoenixes and Sanskrit characters, Chenghua reign Ming dynasty, produced for court Buddhist rituals. Slightly flared rim, gently curved body and neatly‑formed foot‑ring, fine thin porcelain body covered with soft lustrous white glaze. Double underglaze‑blue lines run along inner and outer rim. Exterior is decorated with five medallions of coiled phoenixes, each phoenix curls within circular frame with outstretched feather and cloud scrolls, executed with fluid fine brushwork. Inside the bowl, a sacred Sanskrit seed character is painted within double blue circles at centre, related to Ming court Tibetan‑Buddhist worship. Painted with typical Chenghua equality‑blue cobalt, presenting soft muted blue tone. Base bears six‑character Chenghua reign mark within blue square frame in regular script. Chenghua imperial porcelain combining phoenix motif and Sanskrit is quite rare. It integrates imperial auspicious symbolism and Buddhist cultural connotation, representing outstanding craftsmanship of mid‑Ming official kiln porcelain, with important historical, artistic and collectible value.
