Painted in underglaze blue depicting Bodhidharma crossing the river. Bodhidharma is portrayed with bald head, thick eyebrows and full beard, solemn and stern expression. He wears tattered monk robe, folds rendered by graduated blue washes, bare‑feet standing upon surging waves, with gnarled zen staff slung over shoulder, holding a lotus ritual implement with curling smoke rising from bloom. Background features softly washed blue cloud and water patterns creating ethereal atmosphere. Calligraphic inscription in underglaze blue at upper‑left corner, square seal mark “Wang Bu” at lower‑right. The painter freely applies Chinese ink‑painting brushwork onto porcelain surface, with skillful gradation of cobalt blue. Figure, garment folds and cloud‑water scenery carry strong literati artistic charm. The Bodhidharma theme conveys Zen enlightenment and spiritual transcendence, representing fine literati porcelain painting of Republic era.
